Iceland Warms to Europe, Again

If Iceland votes Yes 29 August, Norway will need to rapidly reconsider whether also to seek EU membership. If Iceland were to vote No and Norway were to apply for and attain membership, Iceland would be left alone with Liechtenstein in the EEA, which would then almost surely cease to function. If for no other reason, a No vote would thus entail risk. Therefore, from economic, political, and strategic standpoints, Iceland is in more of a hurry than Norway. Ideally, however, both countries could join the EU together for their own good as well as for the benefit of Europe. (Forthcoming 26 August 2026.)
